Academic profile
Dr. Ana Sevilla-Pavón is Associate Professor in the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Valencia (Spain), where she has worked since 2014. She is also a researcher at the IULMA Institute and a member of the SILVA and TALIS research groups. She holds a PhD in English Philology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (International Mention UPV–UMass Amherst), as well as degrees in English Literature and Linguistics and French Philology from the University of Valencia, where she received the Extraordinary Graduate Award.
Teaching & Innovation
Dr. Sevilla-Pavón has wide-ranging experience in English language teaching, both in traditional classrooms and through technology-enhanced learning environments. She has coordinated the English Philology Area and the English for Specific Purposes Teaching Unit in her department, combining her expertise in ESP, teacher training, and educational innovation.
She has developed cutting-edge resources for language learning, including the InGenio FCE Online Tester and several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that have attracted over 175,000 global participants per edition. Her work demonstrates a strong commitment to making language learning accessible, interactive, and globally connected.
As co-director of INNOVALingua-EIA (GCID25-3799451), she explores how telecollaboration, virtual 3D exchange, and VR/AI-supported environments can transform foreign language education, while also enhancing students’ employability and 21st-century skills.
Research & Leadership
Dr. Sevilla-Pavón is the main researcher of the SOCIOEMOVE project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and has also led the regional projects iTECLA (Innovative Telecollaborative Environments for Language Acquisition for Specific Purposes) and YES3D (Youth Entrepreneurship for Society in 3D). She has additionally coordinated several UNESCO Chair projects promoting social inclusion, decolonization, ecofeminism, and global citizenship through language, literature, and intercultural learning.
Her research has been widely published in leading journals such as ReCALL, Language Learning and Technology, Computer-Assisted Language Learning, British Journal of Educational Technology, and Revista de Educación a Distancia, and in volumes by Routledge, Springer, De Gruyter, and Peter Lang. She has also served as section editor of the EuroCALL Journal until 2024 and directs the EMIG collection on Gender Equality and Education (Editorial UPV).
Dr. Sevilla-Pavón has delivered plenary talks at major conferences, including the 2025 EUROCALL conference, and has been awarded several academic distinctions, such as the Enrique Alcaraz Award (AELFE), the Jaclyn Ng Shi Ing Award, the Best Research Article Award (TISLID), and the Excellence in Academia Award. She was also a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University and has held funded international research stays in the United States, Costa Rica, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Canada.
Mission
Her current research interests include computer-assisted language learning and assessment, English for Specific Purposes, teacher training and educational resource design, intercultural communication, and the use of immersive VR/AI-supported environments for global collaboration. As a teacher, researcher, and innovator, Dr. Sevilla-Pavón is committed to advancing language education that is interdisciplinary, inclusive, and future-oriented.
