Academic profile
Dr. Montserrat Esbrí Blasco is Assistant Professor in the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Valencia (Spain). She holds a B.A. in English Studies, for which she received the Extraordinary Graduate Award, an M.A. in Secondary Education Teaching, and a PhD in Applied Linguistics, Literature and Translation, all from the University Jaume I.
She was a funded PhD candidate under a VALi+D grant awarded by the Conselleria d‘Educació, Cultura i Esport. She has also worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University Jaume I (Spain) before joining the University of Valencia as Assistant Professor in 2025.
Teaching & Innovation
Dr. Esbrí Blasco has broad and diverse teaching experience. At the undergraduate level, she has taught courses in English Philology, Education, Audiovisual Communication, Engineering, Business, Medicine and Tourism. At the postgraduate level, she has taught in the Master’s program MELART (English Language and Literature and their Artistic and Cultural Expressions) at the University Jaume I.
She is a member of the teaching innovation group INNOVALingua-EIA (GCID25-3799451), where she contributes to exploring how innovative methodologies and cognitive linguistics can reshape and enhance language teaching and learning and improve employability outcomes.
Research & Publications
Her main research interests include metaphor analysis, contrastive linguistics and frame semantics. She has been a member of the research projects “Expresión metafórica y modelos cognitivos de comunicación en ámbitos específicos de la lengua inglesa (ESP). Implicaciones pragmáticas y pedagógicas para la enseñanza universitaria” (ref. UJI-B2018-59) and “Expresión metafórica del espacio virtual. Modelos cognitivos idealizados metafóricos de los entornos virtuales en inglés y en español. Implicaciones pragmáticas y pedagógicas” (ref. P1-1A2014-02).
Her work has been published in well-established international journals such as Review of Cognitive Linguistics, Metaphor and the Social World, Poznan Studies in Contemporary Linguistics, and Respectus Philologicus, among others, as well as in book chapters published by Peter Lang, De Gruyter and Comares.
She serves on the editorial board of the journal Cultura, Languaje y Representación.
She is a member of the Research Group in Applied Cognitive Linguistics (CLaRe 2025-671), which focuses on contrastive analysis, translation, figurative language, and the design of pedagogical construction grammars.

As a teacher, researcher, and innovator, Dr. Esbrí-Blasco is committed to advance language education by integrating insights from Cognitive Linguistics with innovative pedagogical approaches. Her goal is to promote meaningful language learning, effective intercultural communication and the development of skills that support students’ academic and professional trajectories.
